As Jacksonville Athletic Academy (JAA) opens summer workouts for the 2025 Independent Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) football season, all eyes are on the quarterback room a position group that could define the Mocs’ quest for the ICAA National Championship in Savannah, GA.
Following a disappointing offensive season in 2024, newly appointed Offensive Coordinator Kenneth Mudge is bringing a fresh, yet traditional mindset to the field: discipline, execution, and ground-control passing—hallmarks of old-school football.
“We’re getting back to physical football,” said Coach Mudge. “Pound the rock, control the tempo, take smart shots downfield. That’s how you win championships.”
And he believes the quarterback room is built to lead that transformation.
Leading the Charge: The 2025 JAA Quarterback Competition
While returning starter Wyatt LaGow enters camp as the QB1, nothing is guaranteed. Coach Mudge has opened the competition and expects his signal-callers to earn every rep.
“Iron sharpens iron,” Mudge added. “We’ve got five talented quarterbacks in this room, and the best player is going to start. Period.”
Meet the Contenders:
-
Wyatt LaGow – 2nd-Year Starter
The veteran leader and incumbent starter, LaGow brings size, experience, and command of the offense. He’s looking to rebound and take a major leap forward under Mudge’s system.“Last year taught me a lot,” LaGow said. “Now I’ve got a new system, a new mindset, and a chip on my shoulder.”
-
Dylan Miranda – 2nd-Year QB
Quietly one of the most improved players in spring ball, Miranda has refined his footwork and pocket awareness. He brings a strong arm and high football IQ to the mix. -
Ethan Hamilton – Freshman (Oklahoma)
A polished young passer from Oklahoma, Hamilton impressed early with his poise and accuracy. His deep-ball touch and quick release make him a name to watch. -
Gavin Dufour – Freshman
Dufour brings dual-threat capability and leadership qualities. With high upside and mobility, he adds a dynamic wrinkle to the QB depth chart. -
Jack Bucholz – Freshman
A fundamentally sound and intelligent player, Bucholz rounds out the room with sharp decision-making and a steady demeanor in the huddle.
Building a Championship Offense: Back to Basics
Coach Mudge isn’t just overhauling the playbook—he’s reshaping the identity of the JAA offense.
“We’re not going to win games slinging the ball 50 times,” said Mudge. “We’re going to run the ball, win the line of scrimmage, and let the quarterback manage the game the way it’s meant to be played.”
With a retooled offensive line, a strong running back room, and a defense built to dominate, JAA’s offense is positioned to complement the full team’s push toward Savannah and the ICAA National Championship.
ICAA Football 2025: Quarterback Play Will Decide the Season
The Mocs know the road to Memorial Stadium runs through the quarterback room. Coach Carroll has full trust in Mudge’s leadership.
“Whoever wins this job will have earned it,” said Carroll. “And when they do, they’ll have the full confidence of this staff and this team.”
